Why I admire Yo-Yo Ma

I saw Yo-Yo Ma teach a master class at the The Juilliard School a few (well 10-15) years ago. He was amazing – the most warm, encouraging, and funny person that I’ve ever seen.

my sister was lucky enough...

to hear him play at Harvard, when his wife was a resident assistant there. How great is that? And I saw him at a rehearsal at Tanglewood…not a “real” concert…but man, the joy! The joy! The music is in him.

I've met him!!!

Ok, so One time, at Tanglewood. I was an aspiring Cellist (Was very good and even played at Alice Tully Hall- the smaller auditorium that is part of Carnegie hall, but not bad for a 16 yr old gal).

Yo-Yo Ma was so kind. He dod some sort of autographing and asked, very seriously about the repertoire that I was progressing on…which must have been annoying because there are probably millions of kids like that, but he was great.
Did you see the “Arthur” kids show with him on it??? It was fun to watch with my nephews.
Incidently, I don’t play Cello at all anymore, I put in some time and then found myself not wanting to do a life of working on the holidays and nights and odd hours and such… (OH yes, of course, I’m a nurse, and work holidays, nights and odd hours, and you know its a lot less glamourous than a symphony…darn!)
